Empowered To Connect, together with Show Hope and The Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at TCU, offer the Empowered To Connect Conference — designed to help adoptive and foster parents, ministry leaders and professionals better understand how to connect with “children from hard places” in order to help them heal and become all that God desires for them to be.
The Conference features practical teaching in a safe and supportive community as we work to equip families, churches, and professionals to better serve children impacted by adoption and foster care. It features Trust-Based Relational InterventionⓇ (TBRI) methods developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, to help bring attachment and connection in families. The content is ideal for adoptive and foster parents, those considering adoption or foster care, and those who are serving and supporting others, including social workers, agency professionals, church staff and ministry leaders, counselors, and therapists.
The conference features David Cross, Mandy Howard, Daren Jones, Dan and Terri Coley, Ryan and Kayla North, Casey Call, and Cindy Lee and is ideal for adoptive and foster parents, those considering adoption or foster care and those who are serving and supporting others, including social workers, agency professionals, church staff and ministry leaders, counselors, therapists and others.

Pastor Palmer’s Ordination
On Sunday evening, March 5, Heartland Community Church will hold an ordination service for Kris R. Palmer in conjunction with the annual Missions Conference. As the President of Heartland Christian College, Kris has been serving in a leadership role at Heartland for many years alongside Pastor Charles Sharpe and other team members. Pastor Kris will continue in his role as President of the College.
Pastor Kris and his wife, Martha, have made their home at Heartland since 2002. Martha is the Academic Dean of Heartland Christian College. Kris is a graduate of Atlanta High School, Truman State University, Liberty University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Lancaster Bible College in Pennsylvania. The Palmers are parents of four grown children and have eight grandchildren. Several members of their family are part of the Heartland community and church. Kris’ father, James Palmer, has been a minister in this area for many years and is one of his strongest supporters in the church.
The Heartland church family continues to grieve the loss of Pastor Charles Sharpe, who founded and led the church for more than twenty years. Our prayers remain constant for his faithful wife, Laurie. Yet, the entire community looks forward with gratitude to days of hope and strength under the leadership of Pastor Kris and the team he is assembling.
Heartland Community Church meets at 101 Nations Boulevard, Bethel, Missouri 63434.
The King’s Tapestry: Musical
Heartland Christian College presents “The King’s Tapestry” performed by HCC students. Tapestry is the story of the kingdom of Zion in a time of transition and growth. The king of Zion has had a long and glorious reign, and his kingdom has become the envy of the world. But underneath, the walls that surround the city have begun to crumble from neglect, and the citizens of the kingdom have become caught up in their own desires and ambitions.
2 PERFORMANCES:
Saturday, February 18, 2:00pm
Sunday, February 19, 6:00pm
Location: HCA Gym, 101 Nations Blvd., Bethel MO 63434
Admission is free; there will be an opportunity to donate to the College missions fund.

Charles N. Sharpe
Charles N. Sharpe, Jr., age 89, went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2017 at 12:01 am. Mr. Sharpe died at his residence in Bethel, Missouri. Mr. Sharpe had suffered from declining health due to cardiac and renal issues.
Mr. Sharpe held many titles throughout his life including Pastor, President and Founder of Ozark National Life Insurance Company, Marine, salesman, farmer, mentor and friend. But the accolade he most desired to hear was heard early this morning from his Lord, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Born June 17, 1927, Mr. Sharpe was the son of Charles Norval Sharpe, Sr. And Lois Atha Byers Sharpe, of Bethel, Missouri. As Pastor of Heartland Community Church and Founder of C.N.S. International Ministries, Pastor Sharpe is remembered by thousands of men, women and children for his passion to help them get free from life-controlling behaviors through the Gospel. Starting with his family’s original 600-acre homestead near La Belle, Missouri, he expanded into an 18,000-acre farm spanning three northeast Missouri counties, largely to provide work for people in the recovery programs. Mr. Sharpe was Chancellor of Heartland Christian College.
These ministries were assisted in large part by Pastor Sharpe’s business acumen and ownership of Ozark National Life Insurance Company. Ozark National Life was founded by Mr. Sharpe in 1964 and remained his pride and joy throughout his life, and many of his closest friendships and deepest loyalties were forged there.
Mr. Sharpe was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Wanda Fern Walker Sharpe, and his son, Charles Rodney Sharpe. He is survived by his wife, Laurie J. Emerson Sharpe, a tireless supporter of the work and vision of Ozark National Life Insurance Company, CNS International Ministries, and Heartland Community Church where she has served alongside her husband for 27 years. He is also survived by his daughters, Linda Patchin and her spouse Robert, and Carol Boone and her spouse Willard, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
To borrow a passage from Scripture, these are the days of the years of Charles N. Sharpe, Jr. He breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Heartland Community Church. The Church meets at 101 Nations Boulevard, Bethel, Missouri (in the Heartland Christian Academy auditorium). The main entrance is located on the west side of the building nearest the three flag poles. Parking is available on the north side of the building, with another entrance and gravel parking lot on the east side of the building.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 5, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the same location. A graveside committal service will follow for immediate family only.
Tune in to hland.tv to watch the funeral for Pastor Charles Sharpe on Sunday, February 5, at 9:00am. It will also be available via Facebook Live.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to: CNS International Ministries, 6417 Shelby CR 150, Suite A, Bethel, MO 63434
South Dakota ID318 2016
For several years now, id318 (Heartland Community Church youth group) students have headed to South Dakota each December to help with Christmas outreaches. This year, it was a joy to again work with Joe and Becky Flood, who moved from Heartland a few years ago to pastor a church there. It sure was cold, but sharing the story of Christmas with the Native Americans was an amazing privilege.
