National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer celebrates 70 years of prayer for America this year. Join with us and millions of believers across the nation on Thursday, May 6th, as we pray this year’s theme “Lord, Pour Out Your Love, Life and Liberty” – from 2 Corinthians 3:17. Here at Heartland, we will gather at the flagpole (weather permitting) at noon; all are welcome.

Dwain once said, “If someone were to ask if I had gone far in life, I’d have to say I now live just under a half mile from where I grew up, and then Heartland is only about a quarter of a mile further, not far at all. Going far in life, however, is not measured in miles. Jesus never got beyond an area the size of New Jersey.”
Dwain joined the Heartland construction crew in the late 1990s when the hog market crashed, leaving farmers like Dwain in a hard spot. He worked alongside John Emerson, who asked Charlie to convince him to stay on in the spring. They worked together until John’s death, when Dwain stepped up to lead the crew.
Early on, Dwain started coming to work early to read his Bible before going to the job site. Others began joining him, and a Bible study started among the construction crew. The seeds planted in and through those men will yield a harvest for years to come.
As for the future, Dwain says, “Even when I retire from Heartland, I’ll only be half a mile away, and I fully expect to be consulted on at least a few things.” He hopes to drop in on the Bible study, too.
We are so grateful for all Dwain has provided at Heartland through these years. It goes far beyond being a good neighbor or providing construction skills. He has built friendships that are centered on Jesus. And those are eternal.
HCC 2021 Friends of the College
Heartland Christian College’s annual Friends of the College Fundraiser will be an outdoor event this year, held at our new location — 321 Mercy Street, Bethel, MO, in the Heartland Community.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served outdoors, and guests will enjoy music by HCC students and an address from President Kris Palmer. Tours of the building will be offered (in groups of 6 or less; masks suggested.)
FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT a work study program for College students. This will be our biggest financial aid effort yet, and has the possibility to help and support a majority of our students.

Lifeline Offering
EVERY LIFE SACRED

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:13-14 ESV
Our church family is taking up a special offering this week to donate to a ministry that helps with crisis pregnancies. It is a small way to put action behind our desire to celebrate life, because all life is sacred. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God.
C.S. Lewis put it into great perspective. He once wrote that there are no ordinary people. “It is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit,” he said. The Weight of Glory – pg. 47
Immortals. That makes us all sound a bit like superheroes. But, of course, we are disappointingly human in our weaknesses. Even so, we are immortal. And so, we handle one another with love. With care, kindness, gentleness, and humility no matter our age or abilities.
Because every life is sacred. Including yours.
