We think moms are pretty special. Below is a Mother’s Day video tribute from Heartland Community Church members taking the opportunity to honor women who have shaped their lives. Plus, this article from our bulletin yesterday (by Kathy Nickerson) reminds us to hug a mother.

Genesis 1:27 – “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

I’ve heard Pastor Charlie say that once he’s been in Heaven for about ten-thousand years, hugging the feet of Jesus, he plans to finally look up and say, “I wonder if I could see my mother.”

I’m afraid I might ask to see my mother a little sooner than that. And, I think Jesus would understand. Some of the last words He spoke on earth were about His own mother. This bond is something supernatural; something created by God. He didn’t make Eve out of flowers and stardust, you know. The first mother of mankind came from the very substance of God Himself. She was made in His image. God had motherhood in His nature and He put it into Eve.

This is a mystery and much more theology than I can explain. But, I know this: God is at the heart of every true expression of motherhood. So, reach out and hug a mother today. If yours isn’t nearby, borrow one.

And, if your mom isn’t able to express the heart of God through motherhood yet, maybe the best gift you could give her today is your forgiveness.
